Andy Barnett, Treasurer of Maryburgh Men’s Shed, shares their journey to becoming proud stewards of a former school building through Community Asset Transfer and restoring it as a vital resource in their heart of their village.
A PERSONAL STORY: Alfie Wood from Banff, Macduff and District Men’s Shed
The SMSA chats to RAF veteran and retired boat builder Alfie Wood (79) from Banff, Macduff and District Men’s Shed on what he gets out of his local Men’s Shed.
SHED-TO-SHED VISITS: Inverclyde Shed hits the road
Inverclyde Shed Secretary Bruce Newlands provides an update on their Shed’s learning visits fully-funded through the Scottish Community Alliance’s Community Learning Exchange Programme. Taking full advantage of the opportunity, the Shed formulated a jam-packed itinerary for the day with three stops to a fellow Scottish Men’s Shed, a Tool Shed and to see a sawmill in action.
SHED PROJECTS
This edition is crammed full of Shed projects including: a Schnürlirädli (straw spinner) in Inverurie; restoration of a community hospital garden in Stonehaven; making an Art Nouveau mark on the laser machine at Milngavie and Bearsden; stage boxes for the ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ in Paisley; three generations of the Lindsay family paint the newly-relocated cabin at Carluke Men’s Shed; and much much more.
SHED LIFE: Alford Men’s Shed is officially open!
On Friday 25th August 2023, the Provost of Aberdeenshire Judy Whyte officially opened Alford & District Men’s Shed’s ‘Old School Technical Block’ on Murray Terrace in the village.
SHED LIFE: East Kilbride Shedder is quick on the draw
MSPs Monica Lennon and Joani Reid got a little more than a warm, friendly welcome when they dropped in for a visit to East Kilbride Men’s Shed when Shedder Tommy Sommerville put pencil to paper to draw the ladies’ caricatures.
