FUNDED OPPORTUNITIES TO VISIT & LEARN

Have you got an idea for your Men’s Shed but aren’t sure how to go about it? Don’t want to reinvent the wheel?

The Scottish Community Alliance‘s Community Learning Exchange is an opportunity for Sheds to visit fellow Sheds or community groups and learn from their experience.

The programme funds 100% of travel and subsistence expenses (up to £1,000) including a fee for the host organisation that you want to visit. Funding is also available to develop and deliver a virtual learning experience. Hundreds of communities have already taken advantage of this fantastic opportunity.

Step one:

  • Are you eligible? Your Shed must be a member of the SMSA. This opportunity is a membership benefit through the SMSA’s partnership with the Scottish Community Alliance. Not yet a member, please click here for more info.
  • Take a look through the Shed stories below and read the SCA’s Case Studies to get a flavour of what is possible through the fund.
  • Read over the Guidance and FAQs to gain an insight into the what is and isn’t eligible, to ensure you have all the information you need to apply and to understand the fund requirements.
  • SMSA Shed members should complete the form below or contact SMSA’s Administrator on 07465 202834 to discuss beforehand.

Step two:

  • If your proposal is endorsed by the SMSA, all that’s left to do is apply online!

Please enter a number from 0 to 1000.
Learning Outcomes: What do you hope to learn from the visit? For example, see equipment/activities in action, discuss Shed processes to implement improvements for your Shed processes etc
Travel - trains, bus or ferry or mileage (45p per mile for car or minibus)

Accommodation - up to £100 per person, per night to cover accommodation for one night if you have far to travel. Additional accommodation will be considered only in exceptional circumstances, on a case by case basis.

Subsistence - up to £25 per person, per day for subsistence (around £7pp for lunch is recommended) – the fund does not cover alcohol. Remember to add in a host fee per exchange (£100 recommended by the SMSA) to allow preparation for your visit.
