SMSA’s ‘Scottish Men’s Shed of the Year 2020’ winner, The Inverclyde Shed, has featured in the Comic Relief: Red Nose Day 2021 national campaign for the first time.
The Scottish Men’s Shed movement continues to grow daily and two things are always guaranteed in a Men’s Shed… a cup of tea and a belly laugh! It’s the glue which binds the men together.
Darrel O’Shaughnessy, Men’s Sheds Lead from the Arnprior & McNab/Braeside Men’s Shed in Canada got in touch with the SMSA to highlight their latest video production.
The video entitled ‘Shedding a Little Light in our Community’ was filmed at their Shed in the Province of Ontario in close proximity to Ottawa (their nation’s capital). Their Shed is now almost three years old and has 38 members, and like our Scotttish Sheds, they are changing the lives of their Shedders.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, they are currently operating with 10 Members at any one time and continue to be very busy designing and developing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) throughout the County of Renfrew.
Check out their video below to get a closer look at how they create a welcoming place where men can feel useful, have purpose, enjoy social connection and make a meaningful contribution to their community.
When the community bought @machairbase from the MoD for £1, no one would have dreamed that, six years later, there would be……. Watch their short film about their inspiring achievements on Scotland’s West Coast. Same process for Men’s Sheds needed and being done – Community Asset Transfer (CAT) is now under scrutiny and improving every day. Together Shedders we will make this work for Scotland’s Men’s Sheds Movement.
A Men’s Shed is a Men’s Shed is a Men’s Shed the world over. Same issues and solutions. This could be any Men’s Shed in Scotland and we are looking forward to Keith Men’s Shed who have written a song and are practising hard to get it into production about their Scottish Men’s Shed. When that happens we will be sure to send it to the Australian Sheds although they might find the accents and local dialect a bit tricky to understand
The SMSA have created our own You Tube channel, to host our own videos and those of other Sheds and Shed Associations which we feel are worth watching. Be sure to subscribe to our channel which is free, so you can find us easily. If you have a You Tube video from your Shed which you feel would benefit the Scottish Men’s Sheds Movement and would like us to have it in our library, please email us for consideration: info@scottishmsa.org.uk. You can also find the You Tube link at the bottom of all our pages on this website.
