Head to the Shed this Men's Health Week

Men's Health Week: Discover your local Men's Shed

Locals are being encouraged to head to the Shed this Men’s Health Week (15-21 June 2026) as part of a nationwide Shed Open Doors Week celebrating the positive impact of Men’s Sheds on men’s health, wellbeing and community life.

With more than 200 Men’s Sheds operating across Scotland, in all 32 local authority areas, Shed Open Doors Week aims to raise awareness of the Scottish Men’s Sheds movement and showcase the many ways Sheds contribute to healthier lives and more connected communities.

Shed Open Doors Week, organised by the Scottish Men’s Sheds Association (SMSA) charity, invites local people, businesses, health and social care professionals, funders and community partners to visit their local Shed, meet members and see how these welcoming spaces reduce loneliness, support wellbeing and build lasting friendships.

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Shed, see ongoing projects, chat with members and find out more about the activities on offer.

Men’s Health Week highlights the importance of looking after physical and mental wellbeing, and Men’s Sheds have become an important part of that conversation. Across Scotland, Sheds provide opportunities for people to stay active, learn new skills, share experiences and maintain social connections in a relaxed and supportive environment.

SMSA Chief Executive Officer Jason Schroeder said:

“Men’s Health Week is a fitting time to highlight the important role Scottish Men’s Sheds play in supporting men’s health and wellbeing. Sheds provide much more than activities and projects – they offer friendship, purpose, connection and a sense of belonging.

“Many people have heard of Men’s Sheds but have never had the opportunity to visit one. Shed Open Doors Week is the perfect chance to come along, meet members and discover what makes your local Shed such a valuable part of the community. We would encourage anyone who is curious about their local Shed – whether that’s men, wives, partners, sons, daughters, neighbours, friends or local professionals – to come along, have a look around and see first-hand the difference a Shed can make.”

Those unable to attend a participating Shed during Open Doors Week can still discover their local Men’s Shed by using the SMSA’s Find a Shed map at https://scottishmsa.org.uk/find-a-shed. The online directory includes contact details, locations and opening times for Men’s Sheds across Scotland, making it easy to arrange a visit at a time that suits you.
